Scheduled Reports in Device Manager
Automating reports for proactive diagnostics.
Table of Contents
Scheduled reports let you automate Device Manager reporting so it runs on a recurring frequency and emails the results to chosen recipients, without anyone having to remember to run it. This is the automated counterpart to running a report on-demand. For an overview of what reports exist and how to reach them, see Reports in Device Manager.
Permissions Needed
Viewing and running reports uses the Reports permission (under the default category), which most users have. To schedule reports, you also need two permissions from the Admin permission set: Scheduled Report Manager and Scheduled Report View.
Why Schedule Reports?
There are two main reasons to schedule reports:
- Convenience in the generation and distribution of reports that run regularly and must be generated at a specific time. An example would be a billing report which needs to be run monthly to reconcile and troubleshoot billing queries.
- Exception-based alerting: reports that should only send when there is information contained within them. An example would be a battery status report that only sends when at least one device has experienced a battery warning within the reporting timeframe. This functions somewhat like an alert.
Which Reports Can I Schedule?
The following reports can be run on-demand or scheduled. Open each for its parameters, columns, and required permissions:
- Device Manager - Devices Not Connecting Report
- Device Manager - Battery Status Report
- Device Manager - Outdated Firmware Report
- Device Manager - User Security Report
- Device Manager Billing
- Location Engine Billing
Setting Up a Report
- Click Reports in the left-hand navigation menu.
- Select the report type that you are interested in.
- Press the Schedule button.
- Give your report a name in the modal that appears.
- Select any device group filters that you want to apply (for example, "only customer A").
- Pick report-specific conditions and filters.
- Choose the reporting timeframe and frequency by switching to the Schedule tab within the modal.
- Choose the recipients of the report with the Recipients tab. You will only be able to pick live users within Device Manager.

Editing Reports

- Clicking on the Scheduled tab will reveal the list of reports which have been scheduled.
- Clicking on the maintenance wrench against a given report will open a dropdown menu with options:
- Edit: re-opens the setup modal with the tabs for report filters, schedule, and recipients.
- Set Enabled: lets you disable or enable the report from running on its schedule.
- Delete: permanently removes the report from view and cancels all future runs.
- Run Now: instructs the server to immediately generate the report behind the scenes. When ready, an email will be sent to all recipients with a link to generate the report.
- View Logs: brings up a list of all historical logs, from oldest to newest, with the ability to download the report now or resend to all recipients.
- View Recipients: brings up a list of all recipients currently associated with the scheduled report.
Running a Scheduled Report Ahead of Schedule
- Find the report in the scheduled reports list after clicking the Scheduled reports tab from the Reports module screen.
- Click the wrench to reveal the dropdown, and click Run Now. Click OK on the modal.
- Check your inbox, or wait for several minutes and then click the wrench to view the logs.
- Once the recent run is located in the logs, click Download.
When Running Now
Please note that running now will result in all recipients of the scheduled report receiving an email with a link to a new generation of the report.
