How do I change the update rate?

The Remora2 has 3 tracking modes, discussed here - Battery Powered Devices - Overview of Operations
The tracking modes are:
- "Standard" GPS Tracking. Movement based tracking. The update rate is increased when on the move (as according to the GPS - i.e. we're actually covering distance)
- "Jostle Mode" - accelerometer Movement based tracking, the update rate is increased when accelerometer activity is detected - even if we are sitting in one spot vibrating.
- Periodic Tracking - just update twice daily etc.
What batteries do I need to use?
The Remora2 must be fitted with 2 x D Cell Lithium Thionyl Chloride (LTC) batteries. These offer superior battery life and performance over other battery chemistries, but can be a little bit harder to source - we think it is well worth it! The extra effort is easily paid back by not having to go retrieve devices due to poor batteries just giving up. Alkaline batteries will not power the device properly! And in our experience, like to fail early!
Not all LTC batteries are built the same, so be careful with your choice, see Battery Recommendations. They must be shipped by road or sea freight. Your local DM branch may have stock, and if you are unsure of which batteries to choose, speak to us.
What are the default settings?
By default, the Remora2 is setup for trip tracking. The following default settings apply:
- Out of Trip: 12 hour heartbeats. This is a GPS point and an upload every 12 hours.
- In Trip:
- Start trip threshold of 250m
- Upload on trip start.
- GPS points every 2 minutes
- Upload every 30 minutes.
- End a trip after 5 minutes of no movement.
- Upload on trip end.
I have just powered my device on and it has connected but doesn't have a GPS Fix?
It is most likely that the device simply failed its first fix attempt (it will attempt one on start-up) - if it fails, it will go back to sleep until the next scheduled upload. On default settings, this means not for 12 hours, unless you move over 250m from your position (to start a trip). So to attempt another, move to a location with good GPS reception, remove the batteries for 30 secs, and reinsert. This does not do anything special, but it reboots the device and will mean it will start up and attempt another fix and upload.

Can I use the Remora2 to track run hours and Odometer readings?
Short Answer: Yes, but there are some caveats. Settings need to be carefully selected, and it may not be as accurate as a hard wired device (but pretty close most of the time!)
Long Answer:
Run hours can be tracked quite accurately using Jostle mode, see here for information: Battery Powered Devices - Run Hour Monitoring.
Odo readings are not as simple. Generally hard-wired devices should be use to track odometer readings. Getting an accurate reading relies on getting positions frequently enough during movement. The default 2 min logging can sometimes be OK, but it will never be as accurate as a hard wired device which will keep the GPS on during movement, getting a location more frequently and following every corner. With 2 min positions, the Remora2 will clip corners, or you can imagine in the extreme case, if you make a round trip between two GPS fixes and return to your start point, the distanced travelled will be 0m according to the device. However the Remora2 packs such a long battery life, that more aggressive tracking settings (i..e 60s GPS updates when on the move) can be used.
In fact some of our clients use the Remora2 on road trailers, to provide Scheduled Maintenance Reminders, and track utilisation - based on the run hours and ODO readings provided.
What settings should I use to get fast after hours movement alerts? So I can be notified in case of theft.
Where do I see the battery percentage in the device data?
For integrators, the remaining battery % is reported in Analogue 6, in the analogue data field.

How do I set up magnetic tamper detect - to know when someone has removed the device?
See Tamper Detection - by default the device is set to upload if it detects a change in magnetic field due to the tamper magnet. You just need to set the alert up in Telematics Guru or another end platform.
Installation is easy:
- Glue the included magnet to the surface of the asset
- Place the recess in the housing over the magnet and affix the device to the asset via screws, cable ties, bolts etc.
Now, the device can detect the field from the magnet. Should the device be removed, and moved away from the magnet - this is detected and alerted on.

The Remora2 can be configured to scan for nearby Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) tags. Being a battery powered device, it scans periodically - i.e. - wake up and scan every 30 minutes, or at the start/end of a trip etc. If a tag enters and then leaves range in between two scan periods, it will be missed. The BLE module enables a wide variety of solutions detailed in the BLE asset tracking guide. If a device can be hardwired however, the G120 or Eagle can be configured to scan continuously, so tags are detected the instant they come into range. So this may be preferable for some scenarios.
