What is LightMetrics? How Can I Get Started? Adding Cameras Linking Cameras to Existing Assets Creating Standalone Camera Assets Note Next Steps

What is LightMetrics?

LightMetrics is an AI Dashcam platform which supplies camera hardware, firmware and a software system for partners. Telematics Guru has an integration with LightMetrics such that you can view and interact with these cameras after performing the setup yourself.

How Can I Get Started?

  1. Ensure that you have the following permissions in Telematics Guru:
Feature Category Permission Name
Feature Manager Asset Manage
Feature Manager Camera Media Manage
Feature View Camera Media View
Partner Manager Partner Integration Manage
Partner Manager Organisation View
Partner Manager Organisation Manage

  1.  Contact LightMetrics support and request API credentials (this should take the form of a lowercase partner name and a long, randomized password that looks like an API Key)

  2. Ensure that both your Home Organisation and the target customer organisation has the following functionality:

    1. Camera Integration

  3. While viewing any org, navigate to Admin → Organisation Management → Partner Integrations

  1.  Click on “Create” in the top right-hand corner

  1. From Integration Type choose “LightMetrics Auth”

  2. Within Display Name choose a memorable name for your Integration.

  3. Under LightMetrics E-mail type in the username from LightMetrics (i.e."mypartnername") *this is not an e-mail format, despite the field name.

  4. Under LightMetrics Password enter the long API-Key-looking password from LightMetrics

  5. Under LightMetrics API URL enter https://api.LightMetrics.co/

  6. Click Save

  1. Back on the Partner Integrations screen, click the Edit button (next to the delete button) to re-open the Edit Partner Integration popup.

  2. You will now see a Subscribe to Webhooks button. Upon clicking it you will receive a success message if your details have been entered correctly. *please note, if you are using LightMetrics webhooks for EVENT_CREATED or DVR_UPLOADED then clicking this button will change them to point towards Telematics Guru.

  1. Navigate to Admin → Organisation Management → Organisation

  1. Find your organisation in the list and click the edit button

  1. Under the tab Camera Fleet enter in the following details:

    1. Partner Integration - choose the one you just entered for Display Name on the Edit Partner Integration popup.

    2. Camera Fleet Name - choose an appropriate name to use within TG menus.

    3. Camera Fleet Id - Copy the ‘Account ID’ from your LightMetrics master portal that represents the customer fleet you want to pair with this organisation. This prevents data from other LightMetrics accounts you control from finding its way into this TG organisation. This field is case-sensitive.

  2. Click Test Camera Fleet. A green bar with a success notification will appear if the combination of your Camera Fleet Id and Integration credentials match a fleet in LightMetrics.

  1. Click Save. You are now ready to add cameras.

Adding Cameras

  1. While within the organisation for which you set up your Camera Fleet navigate to Assets → Manage Cameras.

  2. Click Import.

  3. A list of cameras with checkboxes should now appear. The Camera Status column describes if the camera is “new” (does not yet exist in TG) or “existing” (already present in TG). The Asset column contains a dropdown with a list of eligible TG assets for you to link with the camera if you so choose. Methods for creating new assets for your cameras or linking existing assets are outlined in Creating Standalone Camera Assets and Linking Cameras to Existing Assets respectively.

Linking Cameras to Existing Assets

Cameras can be linked to existing assets, allowing the devices’ telemetry and event settings to serve as triggers for media recording.

  1.  Navigate to Assets → Manage Cameras and click on the Import button.

  2.  Ensure that the Import as Assets toggle is toggled off

  3.  Select a target asset from the options presented within the Asset dropdown

  4.  Check the box to the right of each camera that you want to import and link to lock-in your selections.

Camera AI events should now begin flowing through against your assets, while telemetry from the existing device should appear in trip history for that same asset as normal.

Creating Standalone Camera Assets

Standalone cameras are able deliver real-time and historical telemetry directly into Telematics Guru, without requiring a linked asset. The integration with LightMetrics will automatically bring through location, trip, and event data, as standard Telematics Guru telemetry alongside your other assets. LightMetrics telemetry data is delivered by a data streaming service called Kafka, which you only need to link to Telematics Guru once.

  1. The first step is to contact LightMetrics support and request the following information for an integration to Telematics Guru:
  • Topic name

  • Consumer group ID

  • Bootstrap server csv

  • SASL username

  • SASL password

Also, remember to notify them that you're using the TG platform so they can whitelist our server IPs.

  1. While you are waiting to receive your Kafka details, navigate to Assets → Manage Cameras and click on Import.

  1. Toggle Import as Assets at the top left of the page into its active state, and select an Asset Type to apply to any new assets created from this import (you will be able to change this later per asset).

  2. Select the cameras that you wish to import. Please note: only “new” cameras can be created as new assets, any cameras that are “existing” will need to be deleted before they can be re-imported as stand-alone assets.

  1. The Confirm Import button will complete the process and your new cameras will be added. Press Manage Cameras to see them in the Manage Cameras list. Standalone camera assets will bear a black flag to their left, and the asset name can be edited by clicking on the blue hyperlink for the default asset name in the asset column.

  1. Once you have received these details from LightMetrics, you will need to paste them into the relevant fields within the Partner Integration dialog:

  1. Go to Admin → Organisation Management → Partner Integrations → (your existing LightMetrics Auth)

  2. Edit your LightMetrics integration with the edit icon

  3. Toggle ‘Live Telematics’ on with the switch.

  4. Paste the details you received from LightMetrics. (Note the bootstrap servers must be in a csv format, i.e. server1.address;server2.address with no spaces.)

  5. Click Save.

  6. Within 2 hours, your telemetry should start coming through.

Note

Currently, the only way to validate a successful setup is the presence of telemetry data from LightMetrics. Additional pre-verification will be

Using IMEI (Backup method)

  1. Go to Assets → Manage Cameras and click Add Camera

  2.  Provide a camera name and then enter the IMEI of the camera as the Serial Number.

  3.  Click Create

  4. The camera can then be set up in Telematics Guru in two ways:

    1. Linked to an existing Asset, as outlined below in Linking Cameras to Existing Assets.

    2. As a standalone Asset, as outlined below in the Creating a Standalone Camera Asset.

Next Steps

Now that you have integrated your cameras, consider creating some Camera Alerts so that your users will be proactively alerted to AI-generated events.
