Availability Overview Using the Battery Management tools Battery Management reports

      Availability

The battery percentage and remaining battery life estimates shown here are only available for devices fitted with a battery meter (coulomb counter), which report these values directly in the device payload. Devices without a battery meter still appear in the grid, but they will not show a battery percentage or a remaining-life estimate. If you have Device Manager access, you may still view estimates derived from their diagnostic counters on each device's Device View page.

      Overview

When Digital Matter battery-powered devices report their battery statistics to Telematics Guru, the Battery Management tools help you monitor battery health, estimate remaining life, and catch problems in the field before they become failures. For background on how battery estimates are produced on the device and on the underlying device counters, see the device-side battery documentation in Device Manager.

      Using the Battery Management tools

To view battery statistics, go to Assets → Battery Management. You will need the Manage Assets permission to view this page.

You will be taken to this view:

The grid shows asset information. Devices without a battery meter will not display a percentage or remaining capacity estimate, but their other data is still shown.

Click on the asset name (1) to view the device performance counters and battery percentage graph.

When you are not hovering over the graph, the current counter values are shown. Hover along the graph to see the counter values at a point in time. Red dots on the graph indicate a counter reset, which is generally caused by a hard reset (for example, batteries removed and reinserted).

Sudden drops in the graph may indicate an issue, and comparing them against the counter values can help with debugging. For example, if the Failed GPS Fix value increases sharply during a period of increased battery usage, the device may have been moved to a location with no GPS signal and is drawing extra current by attempting to get a fix for the full GPS timeout period (typically 60 seconds) on each attempt.

From the same view you can also:

      • Click the icon shown in (2) to open the device location in Google Maps.
      • Click (3) to open the device in OEM Server.
      • Click (4) to view the assumptions made when calculating the battery percentage and remaining battery life.

      Battery Management reports

Telematics Guru supplies many pre-configured reports as well as reports you can customise. To view them all, go to Reports → All Reports.

Telematics Guru also supports a Remaining Battery Life Estimate report. To schedule it, go to Reports → Schedule Reports and click New, then select Remaining Battery Estimate Report from the Report Type list. Set the schedule and recipients, then click Save. The report can then be managed from Reports → Scheduled Reports on the dashboard.

Schedule this report weekly to run regular health checks on your battery powered devices and catch small issues before they become big problems.
