Immobilisation from Telematics Guru
This article explains how immobilisation works in Telematics Guru, what the immobilisation status icons mean, and how to send an immobilisation request from the TG web app or TG mobile app. Use this when you want to remotely immobilise an asset that has already been configured for server-side immobilisation in Device Manager.
Before You Start
Before immobilisation can be used in Telematics Guru, the device must already be wired and configured for server-side immobilisation in Device Manager. For the device-side setup, see Immobilisation Install - Asset can be immobilised from server.
Immobilisation Status on Live View
Telematics Guru shows immobilisation status on Live View - Telematics Guru using a lightning icon.
-
Grey lightning icon - the asset is entering immobilisation mode.
-
Orange lightning icon - the asset is leaving immobilisation mode.
- Red lightning icon - the asset is currently in immobilisation mode.

Send an Immobilisation Request from the TG Web App
Once immobilisation is enabled for the asset, you can send an immobilisation request from the asset view in the TG web app. This action sends the request via Device Manager behind the scenes.
- Open the asset in Telematics Guru.
- Find the immobilisation control in the asset view dropdown.
- Select the immobilisation action to send the request to the device.
- Wait for the device to receive the command and update its status on Live View.

What to Expect After Sending the Command
The command is not always instant. Digital Matter devices can sleep between uploads, so the immobilisation request is applied when the device next connects and receives the message. This behaviour is also noted in our scheduled immobilisation guidance for the TG mobile app.
Command Latency
If the device is asleep, the immobilisation request will be actioned the next time the device checks in. This means there can be a delay between sending the command and seeing the final red immobilisation status in Telematics Guru.
Send an Immobilisation Request from the TG Mobile App
Immobilisation requests can also be made from the TG mobile app. This is useful when a user needs to act quickly while away from a desktop.
- Open the asset in the TG mobile app.
- Open the asset options menu.
- Select the immobilisation option.
- Confirm the request.

There is also a separate mobile-only feature for scheduled immobilisation. For that workflow, see Scheduled Immobilization.
Permissions and Asset Setup
To use immobilisation in Telematics Guru, the asset must be configured to allow immobilisation, and the user must have permission to manage the asset. The scheduled immobilisation article notes that users need the relevant asset management permission to see and use the immobilise controls.

Next Steps
If you have not yet configured the device for server-side immobilisation, start with Immobilisation Install - Asset can be immobilised from server. If you want to schedule immobilisation from the mobile app, see Scheduled Immobilization. For general map behaviour and status updates, see Live View - Telematics Guru.
